Plan your trip to Orlando

The University of Central Florida is located on the east side of Orlando, approximately a 20 minute drive from Orlando International Airport. Orlando has the second largest number of hotel rooms in the nation.

Overall Preparations

As you start planning, make sure you look over the Team Preparations page and the Tournament Details page. Both contain specific information for Teams. For Event Supervisors and assistants, look closely at the Event Staff Page prior to planning your trip.

Flying to Orlando

From Orlando International Airport:

Go east on 528 to 417 north. Take 417 North to University Blvd. Exit east onto University Blvd. Continue east on University Blvd. for approximately two miles and it will take you to the main entrance to the campus. Make a right turn at the first light, Gemini Blvd. Use the Map to find your way around.

Finding a Hotel

Area hotels have been notified of the 2014 Science Olympiad National Tournament. Some are providing discounts to teams and their guests. However, it is possible that cheaper rates may be found online.

For information on hotels, please contact the location directly. Science Olympiad organizing committee provides this information for your planning purposes only, however we do want you to exercise caution. In 2012, at least one hotel raised their hotel fees when they learned that the national tournament was being hosted at UCF.

Field Trips and Campus Activities

We are planning a variety of field trips at a discounted rate.  These are specialty trips that go beyond the normal places you may find in Orlando.  Some of the field trips will take place on the UCF campus and will be free of charge!  Others will take you off campus to places that even many locals may not have visited.  When planning your field trips – remember that the temperature in Orlando is in the 90′s and sunny.  Bring water and sunscreen!

Purchase the commemorative 2014 Science Olympiad products for your team!  We will hold all the items you purchase online and have them at the registration starting on May 14, which makes one less thing you need to worry about (and save costs with all those shipping charges!) Keep checking back on the store as we add more Science Olympiad products!

Getting to UCF

Orlando has many transportation options to get you from the Orlando International Airport to the University of Central Florida.  If you are staying at a hotel, check with them to find out if there are any free shuttles.  A list of contacts for buses, shuttles, and rental cars can be found on the Orlando International Airport website.

Reserving a Dorm Room

UCF has nearly 800 beds available for reservations in the Libra Community. The dorms are located on campus and are a 5 – 10 minute walk to most event locations. Restaurants and the Marketplace Cafeteria are a short walk away.

When reserving a bed, please read the directions carefully on the next page and make sure you select beds for each night of your stay.  About half of the rooms available include linens.

Meal Plans

Take care of all your meal options here.  UCF has a wide variety of options for both the competititors and guests attending with your teams.

Be part of the Opening Ceremonies

We are looking for teams, supervisors, coaches and parents to prerecord the readings of the Code of Ethics. Send us the video and you might be part of the opening ceremonies!
